Australia’s Madison de Rozario has come third in the women’s wheelchair Boston Marathon race, behind first-time winner Eden Rainbow-Cooper.
The Briton crossed the line in one hour, 35 minutes, 11 seconds followed by Switzerland’s Manuela Schar in 1:36.41 and de Rozario at 1:39.20, just over four minutes off the winner.
Rainbow-Cooper, 22, is the firts British winner of the event, first raced by women in 1977
In the men’s race Marcel Hug of Switzerland overcame a crash around two-thirds through to capture his seventh title, setting a course record on Monday of 1:15.33, beating his own previous record and seven seconds from a world record.
American Daniel Romanchuk was second in 1:20:37, followed by Britain’s David Weir in 1:22:12.
Hug and Rainbow-Cooper received $US40,000 ($A62,000) for their wins with the Swiss picking up a $US50,000 ($A77,000) bonus for setting a record.
